Apparently Google has its knickers all in a twist over those cunts in the Eu and some shite about cookies. Frankly if they are biscuits then I will eat them, if you are concerned about this then fuck off somewhere else and read something else.

Thanks to the Kiwi

You know I do wonder what he is looking for when he finds these gems!

Read and Learn

This blog is from a very sensible and experienced gun dog handler and trainer, gems and words of wisdom should flow.

The feeders topped and waterers filled

So we have started to fill the feeders outside the pen, this means that as the birds are flying in and out I wont lift the pen sides which we did last year and they can have a safe haven with food and water in abundance;

Outside feeders starting to get grower pellets and corn, water troughs nearby being filled too;

Filling the ICB's from a hose as below was a chore but a 4 inch pipe certainly made transferring the water a quick game;

I do love the makers name on the ICB above!

This deserves posting

Even if its two wheels and a BMW or digital briefcase as we called them in my Yamaha days;

Yes I was an evil biker once, fortunately not born again!

Thanks to Phil for that one!

Fallow buck season opens on Monday

My phone will be switched off. I will be with friends and clients but mainly friends trying to make a dent in the population.

I foresee a busy weekend, my last free one for a while as I have been offered that curse of the drinking classes, work. I will struggle to meet all of my commitments regarding birds and deer but I will try my best. The one saving grace is its night shift so I can get some work done in the afternoons. I would like no doubt to see a few like this;

But I suspect that mostly they will be like this;

Still thats what the management plan for the cull is all about, identify this years youngsters and make a dent in the target figures. I will keep you updated.

Thanks to the interweb for two shamelessly poached piccies. One from this source, one day I will do that trip. The prickett picture belongs to Mary, many thanks.

well Kent happened and the CLA

Damp it was for sure but we raised £500 for charity, half to hounds for heroes and half to kent Air Ambulance. Thanks to Stewart from Nobs and his Son Alex amongst the many helpers;

The Tea Lady treated us all to a slap up feed, all of us who were too tight or skint to stay in a hotel;
After 48 hours of drying out we headed north to Blenheim Palace for the 2011 CLA Game Fair. Whilst we were really rather busy I couldnt actually capture every example of the red strides as there were so many so I found another mother lode;

We also managed to get the Gambrels in in time and on the shelf, not flying out but a steady seller without a doubt;

Maybe there will be more pics to follow once I find where they are stashed.

Come along and see us at stand 200 between gates 4 and 5.

A good weekend so far and its not yet over

Alex had a great start, 11 strikes and a personal best of 266;

Followed by the passing of a magpie in the fox trap, not sure how but it caught him clean in half. Later this same trap bagged a feral cat;

We baited this trap by the pen to no avail so far, we have lost in 2 weeks close to 15 birds, I'm starting to worry it may be Badgers;

If it was squirrels then Alex is starting to even the score;

If it is Badgers then its not this one whose remains we found by the road;

new toys

Often misdescribed as an elephant gun round the 3 inch .577 by Eley would be carried as a dangerous game cartridge;

As we well read chaps know that really what you need is a nice small bore round something like a .275 aka .275 Rigby.
Lets face it you wouldnt want to carry the gun that fired that cartridge for very long!

The Birds arrive

So half a ton of feed sat in my conservatory ready to load out this morning;

Feed storage drums cleaned and drying on top of a good supply of water;

Steve clearing the latest weeds so the leccy fence works;
And the birds arrive, well feathered and looking good;

Escaping from the crates to a pampered life till October at least;

So now the hard work begins, just keeping this lot fed, watered and disease free and we havent even discussed pest control yet. Now the cubs are out we will need to trap regularly so I'll be bringing a couple into the wood next week.

Its not been all bad

after all it started with a lovely armed ramble and the chance to watch almost a dozen Fallow Does grazing without them knowing;
Sassy was picking up freshly shot rabbit with Alex's HMR;

And the week has rounded off with some spud picking from our little veg patch;

Which considering we put the seed spuds in really late and hadnt prepared the ground;

Gave us a really nice little crop which should see us through a fair bit of the summer for new potatoes;

The chickens have also some rough to hunt amongst again!

Mc Shug has just been on the phone, wants to try out his new toy, well I'll see it tomorrow when the birds arrive.
