Last weekend of the doe season

So Rob and I met up to make a last attempt to thin the herd. We were hoping to take a yearling or two, there are plenty out there and despite the dawn stand to in a high seat we saw nothing moving till after 1030. This time to ensure we can track a blood trail we took along Cody. I've not used her before for stalking and I have to admit she was really very well behaved but even for her the dry leaves could prove too tempting. Here she is curled up making the most of her comforts;

Turn up the volume and at about 20 seconds you can hear her snoring whilst we watch over the pasture;

The amount of dried leaves here is amazing, it makes the stalking really slow and difficult, I had to carry Cody for the last 25 yards;
Cody had to be carried over these leaves but shortly after when we were heading back we bumped a nice small herd of Fallow Does, in all we saw over 20 deer including a very nice buck.

This mornings work on the Fallow doe cull

The view this morning was worth seeing, especially as 10 mins after this a dozen deer ran out in front of us. Two of them returned and fed along the bottom edge of the pasture. It was a surprise to see a yearling buck with a severely injured left rear leg. A Missing foot in fact and he hopped along behind his mum right into the path of a .243 from Alan; Here is Alan with the Buck;

It was also an opportunity to try the new deer drag out. I will try and upload the clip later. As hinted at earlier Alan managed another Fallow, a doe this time and a hefty one at that;

Didnt he do well?

You may remember the Suburban Bush Wacker from earlier posts and also alongside in the blogg roll.
Well after two days of plumbing, meat mincing, zeroing rifles, sausage stuffing and stalking he managed to bag a nice Fallow Doe

I'll post more later, until then I'm off out to continue the cull.

So there I was in Jinx wood

sat in a high seat enjoying the rare weather 15 degrees as it was and I thought I know who I could wind up by sending a pic;

Of course being sausage side he returned fire;

Here Alan and I sat in a nice dip in the ground watching a woodland glade for the fallow, shortly after this we moved off and bumped about 12 Fallow Does but the jinx struck again;

Anyway more of that later, its time for some humour;

Phil has supplied me with plenty of material over the years, come on I dont have all day to surf for this as well as culling gods creatures!

He has been busy with a series now known as you cant fix stupid;

I do believe thats why we have rules of the road at sea!

Hiding in the layby

You know the one, the one where your ISP decides to cut you off as your phone line was dead over the weekend and then wrote to me a week later to tell me this. Well I am back and the inbox is really full.
Watch this space.
