Apparently Google has its knickers all in a twist over those cunts in the Eu and some shite about cookies. Frankly if they are biscuits then I will eat them, if you are concerned about this then fuck off somewhere else and read something else.

Another pants day at the office

Client progress meeting in london this afternoon, the job that pays the mortgage sadly. At least it allowed me some time on the train to make a start on the book my wife bought me for helping at her stand during the Gamefair at Michelham Priory a fortnight ago.

A very good first edition of "Practical Deer-Stalking" by the late great G Kenneth Whitehead. Signed by the great man himself and although a steal at £25 it was knocked down to the trade for £20. Thanks sweetheart it was worth it!

I was doubly impressed to find that the book has loads of line drawings. I shall use this a lot.

The local Firearms Enquiry Officer wandered all over our wood this afternoon and cleared it up to 6.5 from the ground. We can start managing the deer as well as missing the pheasants. They come soon so I need to e mail the game farm a map!
Back to the Game fair, and glad we are that we didnt set ourselves up for the CLA event this year;
The wife and I did alright for our first event, we made contact with dog training clubs and societies.
We sell good quality dog training equipment, her website is:
Go on give it a whirl, if you know of any events, game fairs within a couple of hours drive of East Sussex then let us know, we have agreed to sponsor young handler events in a few local trials. This we think will help in two ways;
1. Not every school aged dog handler can afford the type of kit we sell.
2. We will gain exposure and also put a stall up at these events.

Pen Time

Well this is I sorting out which trees are going to be are pen boundary fence. Why cut down good roosting trees with roots to replace them with cut down posts that we have to cut down in the first place anyway. So we picked a spot in the south east corner of our wood, protected from our local south westerlies unfortunately it also held a pond with absolutely rabid mosquitos.
Four weeks down the road and the pen is complete less the water butt and pop hole. This will be installed this week. A marathon lamping session with rimfires and centrefires will follow to thin out charley before the poults arrive this weekend!

Bashing Bambi

Well last night I took the boss' lad out for a quick trip around one of my woods in Sussex.

Despite him being a 16 year old lad with all the patience of a beggar on speed we did see deer.

I saw a lovely Roe Doe early on in the stalk, she was lovely in colour and responded well to the buttolo call.

I trekked as slowly around getting the wind into our faces as I could. I let the lad walk on with my .22 to see if he could knock a rabbit on the head for my dogs supper. Eventually we were within 10 minutes walk of the end of the stalk and he was tearing on ahead. We entered a clearing and as he turned for yet another loud Q&A session on why all the rabbits ran away when they heard him out popped the Doe from earlier.

"SHH!" I cried to suppress him, and that second an astonishing Buck appeared behind her.

He looked a lot like the one at the top of this post. I'll save him for a paying client! Still nice to get another lad interested in the outdoors.
More to follow.

This is the pair of rifles I usually use, a nice medium weight full stocked CZ 550 in 6.5 swede and I let the client carry that. I use a lightweight CZ 527 in 7.62 X 39 (Yes the famous AK47 round) I have to hand load to achieve the minimum legal deer limit for England and Wales but for our small deer here it is ideal. It weighs little and also uses the same bullet as I reload for my .303 stalking rifle.
